While we’re celebrating April in our bookstore with our main display table for National Poetry Month, we wanted our book club picks to continue with a spring-adjacent theme. We knew we wanted to focus on environmental books of all genres and honor a bunch of cool new and old international lit coming out. Where to go with that that doesn’t end in terrible spiraling? We played around with the idea of wanderlust. Ultimately we decided on Roots and Shoots.
Roots and Shoots; our relationship to each other and the earth (grounded, roots) and how we grow (rhizomes, nodes. If you’ve ever propagated a pothos, for instance, this is where the new plant sprouts from), or not. All of these books in some way touch on nature; there is beauty and terror in each of these selections. Here's to the weird beginning of spring where we all feel stir crazy, when we crave change and fear its inevitability, when we don’t know what to do next!
