June is LGBT+ Pride Month! Although Elliott Smith isn't LGBT+ (though many may argue otherwise; who knows!), we found the theme of Lost and Found particularly apt regarding all of the queer books we chose for this month's book club picks. We move through life rifling around to see what's in - and outside - of boxes constructed and material left to us by those who came before, allowing us to pick and choose and combine.
More than metaphor, though, are the questions: what have we lost (of queerness, of meaning, of ourselves, of identities, etc.)? What is out there for us to find, to make? What do we owe to those who came before us, and how? What do we want to change? How can we change? What do we lose through transformation? What do we want for ourselves in the greater picture? What actually matters, and what should we leave behind? What really needs to be cleaned of as much gunk as possible?
Gender and sexuality are embodied bits of translated human history. What does any of it mean?
